Kansas Police Discover Marijuana Stash in Car Trunk

The Kansas Highway Patrol seized 59.2 pounds of marijuana and arrested two 18-year-old Ohio men Sunday just west of Topeka, Kansas an official said Monday.
Lt. John Eichkorn said that at about 12:22 p.m. Sunday a trooper stopped a 1997 Ford four-door car with an Ohio license tag for following another vehicle too closely and making an unsafe lane change on Interstate 70 between S.W. Auburn Road and Interstate 470.

Eichkorn said the driver and passenger gave conflicting stories to the trooper, who became suspicious and asked for permission to search their car.

They refused.

A drug-detecting dog from the Kansas, Wabaunsee County Sheriff's Department was brought to the scene, where it indicated illegal drugs were in the car's trunk area, Eichkorn said.

Authorities looked inside and found 59.2 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated $118,400 street value, and 4.2 ounces of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $5,250.

Kansas, Shawnee County Jail records identified those arrested as Clinton N. Musselman, 18, of Wilmington, Ohio, and Addam K. Shaeffer, 18, of Jamestown, Ohio.

Records indicated both were booked in connection with one misdemeanor count each of possessing drug paraphernalia and one felony count each of possessing marijuana with intent to sell, possessing cocaine, failure to pay the Kansas drug tax and conspiracy.
